New Certification Programs are Being Offered at NCMC
Certification programs are being offered at NCMC in partnership with the Waganakising Odawa Career and Technical Education Program (WOCTEP), part of the Department of Education of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians. Certification programs include New Media, Entrepreneurial Essentials, Medical Assistant, Nurse Aid, and Phlebotomy.
In the New Media program students will gain hands-on experience in the exciting area of digital and web-based audio and video recording, editing and presentation. In the Entrepreneurial program students will learn how to successfully start and manage their own business. The Medical Assistant program places a special emphasis on the skills needed to work in physician’s offices and health clinics and makes students eligible to take the Registered Medical Assistant certification exam. Nurse Aid students will prepare for employment in physician’s offices, hospitals, and other health facilities via classroom and hands-on experience. Students will also then be eligible for the Michigan Certified Nurse Aid examination. In the Phlebotomy program students will learn blood drawing techniques, transport and processing through classroom and laboratory experience.
There are several benefits to doing certification programs through WOCTEP including culturally diverse courses, need-based assistance including student stipends, mileage, and childcare, and an academic liaison that will help guide students through the program. These certification programs are available to any and all NCMC students. Registering to become a student can be done at NCMC’s website: www.ncmich.edu or, call WOCTEP and we will help you with the registration form!
