Straddles Cheboygan and Presque Isle counties and is located immediately north of Black Lake. This recreation area is part of Mackinaw State Forest. In addition to good hunting opportunities and abundant fish, the area offers many other recreational opportunities. Among the other kinds of recreational offerings are: snowmobiling on more than 80 miles of groomed trails; ORV riding with the area providing access to 60 miles of ORV trails and 15 miles of ORV routes; a 65 acre scramble area for motorcycles and ATV's; cross country skiing with more than 30 miles of trails on a variety of skill levels; hiking (on the cross-country trails off season); muntain biking - a new sport to this area; camping in the Black Lake State Forest Campground on the north shore of Black Lake - 50 sites - boat access to Black Lake - access to ORV routes and trails - and a swimming beach; picnicing in the day use area at Black Lake State Forest Campground. http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10365_15070-38330--,00.html Click on this link to see a map of trails in the Black Mountain Recreation Area. Black Lake State Campground . . . Located on Black Lake off Doriva Beach Rd. The State Park boasts 50 campsites, 17 of which are on the water, plus boat launches. Black Lake, located in the Black Mountain Area, is one of the better sportfishing lakes in Northern Michigan. The lake is known for its walley fishery and its lake sturgeon fishery. Other sport fish available include largemouth and smallmouth bass, northern pike, great lakes muskellunge, yellow perch and rock bass. Mackinaw State Forest . . . Encompasses approximately 5,557 acres (8.68 sq.miles) of the township area. Included in this state land are the previously mentioned Black Mountain Recreation Area and Black Lake State Campground. The state forest lands are maintained by the State of Michigan's Department of Natural Resources. Rippling Rapids Golf Course . . . A nine hole course located on Black River Rd. The course also offers a driving range and is open to the public. |
