TOWNSHIP OFFICER JOB DESCRIPTIONS

RECYCLING FEE REIMBURSEMENT
All township residents who present to the Township Clerk a receipt
proving payment of the $36.00 County Recycling fee, will receive a $16.00
reimbursement.

LAND SPLITS
Applications for land splits can be obtained from Supervisor Roger
Wooden, (231-625-2375) or Diane Gandolfi, Grant Township Tax
Assessor. ( 231-420-2412) He/She will explain the process.

VOTING
All registered voters in Grant Township vote at the Grant Township Hall
(8908 Twin Lakes Rd., Grant Township)  
EXCEPT FOR SCHOOL
ELECTIONS.
For all school elections, township residents vote at Benton
Township Hall. (5012 Orchard Beach Rd., Alverno) Absentee ballots,
for
school elections only,
must be requested from the Cheboygan County
Clerk. (231-627-8808) All other absentee ballots can be requested from
Grant Township Clerk Karen Hempenstall. (231-625-2425) You can also
request to be put on the Permanent Absentee Voter List. You can also go

TRASH PICK UP
L & R Disposal of Cheboygan  (231-597-9306) has a one year contract
from the Grant Township Board for once-a-month trash pick-up on the last
Thursday of each month. This is FREE TRASH PICK-UP DAY for
residents. You can purchase pre-paid stickers at Twin Lakes Grocery for
weekly trash pick-up. A one year trash pick-up contract is $124.20.

P.A.C. Sanitation, Inc . (989-733-2598)  also does regular weekly trash
pick-up in Grant Township. You can purchase pre-paid stickers at Twin
Lakes Grocery. P.A.C.'s one year contract for weekly pick-up is $118.80.

SPRING & FALL CLEANUP
Your township government provides two opportunities each year for FREE
disposal of large or excess accumulated trash! Once in the spring and
once in the fall dumpsters and compactor trucks are available next to the
Firehouse on N. Black River Rd. You will be required to show proof of
residency. (drivers license or utility bill w/township address) You can check

Dates To Remember" page on this website for specific dates, and
there will also be an announcement in the Cheboygan Daily Tribune.

2010/2011 TAXES
If you have questions about your 2010/2011 tax bill, you may contact
Township Treasurer Rachel Vallance at 231-625-2997. Rachel has a full
time job away from home, so you should call between 6 P.M. and 9 P.M.
weekdays or anytime on weekends. Please leave a message if you get
her machine. If you have a local number or an 800 telephone number,
Rachel will try to return your call during business hours. If you wish to pay
your taxes in person, Rachel lives at 4280 S. River Rd. She will be
available evening during December. She will also be available on Friday,
Dec. 31 from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Please call ahead to be sure she is home
and, if paying cash, you must have the correct change.

ADOPT A ROAD PROGRAM
The Adopt-A-Road program is available at the Township level. If you or
your group would like to take responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness
of a section of township road, call the Cheboygan County Road
Commission at 231-238-7775. They have information packets available
that further explain your responsibilities in the program.

THE HUMANE SOCIETY
Grant Township provides animal control contracted services through the
Cheboygan County Humane Society. The cost for this service is $1,000
annually.

CONSTABLES
Grant Township has two elected constables, Gil Archambo and Diane
Berden. The constables sole duty is to review liquor license
establishments within our township. They visit each establishment twice a
month with an inspection checklist that includes, among other things,
evidence of serving minors, cleanliness and safety issues. They are paid
$120 a month, which comes out of the liquor license fund. The liquor
license fund receives its monies from liquor license taxes.

THE LIBRARY
Ruth Gainor represents Grant Township on the seven member
Cheboygan Library Board. The board meets at least once a month at the
library, located at 107 S. Ball St. in Cheboygan. If you are interested in
attending a library board meeting, contact the library at 231-625-2381.
